Dr. Prasad Medawatte
Lanka Hospitals Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Prasad Medawatte has over 18 years of experience in healthcare management, healthcare operations and demonstrated leadership, expertise and sound business knowledge in steering the Lanka Hospitals team towards reaching numerous milestones. Dr. Medawatte has been instrumental in Lanka Hospitals’ many achievements including the securing of the globally recognized Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation (2017) in its 6th edition, the world respected Medical Tourism Certification from the Medical Travel Quality Alliance (MTQUA) (2016 – 2018), the Lanka Hospitals Diagnostics (LHD) accreditation received by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) (2017 – 2019) and the ISO 15189 Accreditation (2015 – 2018). He is also responsible for establishing the state-of-the-art Clinical Business Unit concept that has helped further advance the processes at Lanka Hospitals.
Dr. Medawatte’s leadership and professional guidance has enabled Lanka Hospitals to win a string of accolades and recognition both locally and globally. The Gold Award for Best HR Company 2018 by the Golden Globe Tigers for Excellence in HR Leadership, the Gold Award for Best Employer Brand 2017 and 2018 by the World HRD Congress, the Brand Leadership Award from the World Medical Tourism Congress 2018, ranked among the Ten Best Integrated Reports at the CMA Excellence in Integrated Reporting Awards in 2017 and 2018 and ranked Most Respected Healthcare Provider in 2018 by LMD’s Most Respect Special Edition are some of the special honors presented to Lanka Hospitals during his tenure.
Due to Dr. Medawatte’s global business insight, Lanka Hospitals has been able to make remarkable progress in its contribution towards offering global healthcare solutions to other countries by penetrating foreign markets such as Maldives, Seychelles and China with the future expectation of tapping other international markets as well. Lanka Hospitals is the only hospital today to have an established, full-fledged medical and specialty centre in Seychelles and an International Patient Care Center at the hospital which is dedicated to serve all international patient needs. His international expertise has contributed to his role as a member of the advisory committee of Wellness and Medical Tourism at the Export Development Board.
Prior to his appointment as Lanka Hospitals Group CEO, Dr. Medawatte held other top management positions as Lanka Hospitals Acting CEO, Deputy Director Medical Services and Senior Manager – International Patient Care. As a key decision-maker in uplifting the hospital’s medical care operations, he has offered strategic leadership in achieving the best quality patient care services among other institutional goals at Lanka Hospitals. Dr.Medawatte has also held many other responsible positions previously as the head of healthcare planning for the Ministry of Health in Sri Lanka between the years 2000 and 2003 and served in Seychelles from 2003 to 2009. In addition, he has a corporate
background in banking and manufacturing at the early years of his career which hasprovided him with a greater business acumen for strategic decision-making.
Dr. Medawatte holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Kelaniya, a Diploma in Fitness and Nutrition from Thomson Education Direct USA and a Divers Examiner & Diving Physician certification in Diving Medicine from Martin Luther University, Germany.
