A Human Resources and Administration veteran by profession, amentor and philanthropist by passion… that’s K M Ramachandran in one sentence!
Born in a family of farmers in a small village in Trichur district of Kerala, Ram’s parents instilled the concepts of discipline and hard work at a very young age; this he considers to be the secret behind his success.
Academically, Ram, as he is more fondly known amongst his peers and subordinates, did his Bachelors in Economics, Masters in English Literature, MBA in General Management and Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management (PGD-HRM). Apart from this, he has also enriched his knowledge through Management Development Program (MDP) from IIM-A, Diploma in HR (HR Gurukul) from Tata Management Training Centre, Pune (TMTC), besides various other high profile Management and Leadership workshops and seminars.
Professionally, Ram carries close to four decades of strong experience, having risen from the grassroots to a strong Leadership position. After his post-graduation, he began his career with ABB, a reputed MNC in Bangalore. Subsequently, he had a long stint with the reputed Torrent Group for around 21 years. In Torrent, he was instrumental in establishing and centralizing the HR activities of the senior management at Group level, bringing about a unified Corporate HR structure. He is also credited with the complete revamping of the administration function of the Group and setting in place appropriate systems and procedures to streamline the activities. Ram was also deputed on specialized assignment in various Torrent Group companies as Vice President. During his stint at GLFL, he was entrusted handling the recoveries for wind-up, a task that he performed with commendable deftness.
He was subsequently associated with “Rai Corporation” in the capacity of Executive Director, looking after Strategic Management, Joint Venture Projects along with HR and Administration of the Group companies based in India, Singapore and Dubai.
Armed with close to four decades of strong professional experience and having risen from the grassroots to a corporate leadership level, he assumed the role of as Senior Vice-President (HR and Administration) at Troikaa Pharmaceuticals since the past five years.
Ram has always been at the helm of affairs in his assignments with a varied portfolio comprising of Human Resources, Corporate Communications, General Administration and Corporate Affairs. What really sets him apart is his ‘out-of-the-box’ thinking and focused ‘common-sense’ approach to all activities with a positive attitude. As a core member of various project teams, he has significantly contributed to these projects right from their conceptualization stage.
Despite his hectic schedule, Ram is also actively involved in various social welfare activities and professional associations. He is an active member of various community associations and is currently serving as the President of Ahmedabad Kerala Samajam, a 75-year old organization with 6500 families as its Members. Apart from this, he is the Convener- Education Committee of Shree Narayana Cultural Mission School with a student strength of 7500, a Managing Committee Member of ASIA (Ahmedabad South Indian Association) Education Trust which has various academic institutions with a student strength of over 7000, over 20 colleagues and is now setting up a University. He also serves as Chairman, Ahmedabad Kerala Samajam Education Trust, who is running a school for economically backward students.
Previously, Ram has served on the Board of “Academic Area Experts” of the Nirma Institute of Management, Ahmedabad for over 4 years, in the Faculty Selection Committee of NIPER, Gujarat and in the “Healthcare Committee” of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industries besides being on various committees of programmes associated with the Govt. of Gujarat like Vibrant Gujarat, Gujarat Navaratri Industries Festival Society (GNIFS) (which conducts the largest Garba in Gujarat), etc. Recently he was inducted as National & International Jury & Advisory Members of “Master Trainer – Pride of India” Awards by Mahabodhi, an eminent consulting firm. His unmatched contributions wherever he involves himself are quite visible, and speak of his utmost dedication, visionary leadership and conviction.
Ram was recently felicitated as “Most Admired Global Indian” by Passion Vista magazine of the Unified Brainz group. He has also been recognized as one among very select patrons in “Who’s Who of Gujarat Malayalis” by Motivate Publishing India Ltd, a part of Excellence Global FZC LLC. He was also conferred the award of “The Most Inspiring Leader of the Year” by Asian African Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Awarded “Man of Excellence Award” for Outstanding Professional Achievement & Contribution in Nation Building by Indian Achievers’ Forum.
On the personal front, Ram is ably supported by his wife Sheela, a banking professional and their two children. Their daughter Rhea is a management graduate working with a big-4 consultancy and her husband is an XLRI graduate working with a reputed MNC whereas son Rahul is studying Integrated Law. The continued rock-solid support of his wife and children have been a major contributing factor in his success in the professional as well as social arena!
A strong mentor and Good Samaritan, Ram is known as a “Change maker” and “Visionary leader” amongst his associates and team members on both professional as well as philanthropic and this is evident in the fact that today, many new initiatives have successfully taken shape under his able guidance……..!A well-read person, he believes that learning is a lifelong process. His constant endeavor is to apply concepts practically to real-life situations, be it at work or to contribute socially. This coupled with his keen interpersonal skills, have helped him build a strong network across various segments and facets of life!
